Creative Juices Flowing
A disclaimer first! Not sure how this happens but it seems that I am always placed in the best place at just the right time in my life. It's happened so many times and at this point in my life, I can actually trace the events that lead up to these amazing opportunities. I am blessed. And so, here I am --- in Montgomery, Texas at a great little quilt show called the Montgomery Quilt Company.
Met with my Beginner Piecing class last night for the second time and we had a great time. We started the evening laughing and sharing stories about our lives at Ransom's in Montgomery. I remember commenting that this is why I love quilting because it brings together all of these creative people. We checked out new patterns for a next class. That promise of new learning is always so much fun! It will be hard to decide and we keep finding ones that we want to do. Decisions. Decisions.
We worked on Half-Square Triangles tonight, yep, the dreaded HSTs with scant 1/4" seams. Such a difficult concept to teach sometimes. But they did great and their HSTs turned out wonderfully, especially after we talked about trimming. I remember when I first started quilting that I thought trimming was silly. Wow! What a mess I had trying to match up those uneven squares. Ripples and lots of crooked squares. So, I really stress the importance of trimming precisely.
Love how quilting is both creative, wild and free, and also so precise! It reminds of our lives and how we get to sometimes just be crazy and over the top but that it's okay to want things to also be organized so that our heads are on straight when they need to be.
I've got to share some success pictures! Check out these 4-patches! Those centers match perfectly!
