A New Beginning

I have to say that I love Beginner Piecing classes.  Everyone, including me, is excited about the pattern, the choosing of the fabrics, and the meeting of new people.  This evening was no exception - full of laughter, stories and sharing of ideas.  Miss Sock Monkey, the store's kitten, entertained us and everyone accomplished so much.  It was a night of cutting as everyone worked to at least finish cutting the body of their blocks.  Our pattern is "Figgy Pudding," a quilt by Lella Boutique.  Big blocks, basic skills, and good practice in cutting and organizing prior to actually quilting.  Homework was to finish cutting the background pieces and to organize everything into plastic bags.  Then, next Monday it's time to start piecing those big blocks!

Last night was my first Beginner Piecing class at The Montgomery Quilt Company, and it felt good!  Really excited to be back with a group of new quilters who are excited about learning about quilting and who are (after this past year) ready to be socializing with others!  I mean, even a huge thunderstorm didn't stop us!  We just waited for a bit of calm and off we went.

Figgy Pudding

Donna, a self-proclaimed ADHD retired elementary teacher, found her Zen place cutting her Ava Kate fat quarters. Caroline, a Baylor grad like me and our adventurous fabric selector, found she really could cut all of those 2 1/2" X 2 1/2" squares.  Nathan, a quilter after my own heart, has already put together a Bucket List binder with a Depression Era nosegay quilt pattern that we are definitely going to do together! And Doyle, Kimberly's husband, is a natural picking out the most beautiful batiks for his Figgy Pudding, but we are going to give him personal cutting attention.  He's a contortionist with his rotary cutter.

All I can say is I'm so glad that I've found my quilting home at Montgomery Quilt Company.  You all know what I mean - a place that feeds your creative soul, that makes you smile when you think about it, where you know you'll be recognized when you walk in the door.  It's great to be in my new groove.
